Peer Response: the iPhone and it’s pressure – is there an app for that?

I really found your post about the iPhone interesting; do you think that this is a form of new media?

I also definitely agree about the pressure people feel to have the same technology as our peers.  It’s the new sort of keeping up with the Jones’s but now it involves a sleek touchscreen phone.  I was content with my old Samsung until all my friends started to get iPhones and then I felt out of the loop, somehow inferior.

It’s the whole in-group versus out-group theory.  When I tried out a Windows phone as opposed to the Apple, I found its user interface more difficult and less accommodating and, not going to lie, the Apple was just prettier.

I do have a question though — do you think that this sort of competition to have these new forms of media in our lives is detrimental to our society or do these constantly evolving technologies help to boost the economy and benefit us overall?
